About the Ram

Ram: Innova’s overstable fairway driver

The Ram is an overstable fairway driver from Innova, rated 6 / 4 / 1 / 4 — a big-diameter, hard-fading control driver for headwinds, forehands and dogleg lefts.

Positive turn and four fade mean it holds a hyzer at any speed and finishes left from a flat release. Four glide gives it a little more carry than the Whippet, so it is the more usable of the two on an open fairway, but the job is the same: a disc that does not turn. Infinite’s two reviewers put it at 6.3 / 4 / -0.7 / 4 and Infinite itself lists the turn as -1, against the 1 that Innova’s retailers print; treat the turn as neutral-to-positive and the fade as the number that matters. It is not a distance disc.

It sits between the Whippet and the Banshee in Innova’s overstable fairway slot, and at 21.7 cm it is a large-diameter driver — the same size as a Roc — which gives it a midrange-like feel in the hand. The limit is that a slow arm gets nothing but hyzer out of it.

PDGA approved on 1 April 1994. Innova does not explain the name beyond its animal-named lineup of the period. It went out of production and returned in DX in small runs, which is why it is listed as discontinued by TryDiscs and as in stock by Infinite at the same time.

DX and Star runs exist; DX is the one currently made.

Flies like…

How much the Ram turns and fades depends on how hard it is thrown. These three shapes are drawn from the manufacturer’s numbers, not from measured throws.
