Hallux: Discraft’s overstable fairway driver

The Discraft Hallux is an overstable control driver and Ricky Wysocki’s signature mold, rated 10 / 5 / 0 / 3. Zero turn against three fade describes a disc that pushes straight under power and then finishes hard left.

Ten speed with five glide is what makes it usable rather than punishing: fast enough to cover ground, but not demanding a distance-driver arm to reach the flat part of the flight. Discraft describes a clean, assertive rim and a slightly domed profile built for torque resistance, and that is the quality reviewers keep picking out — it holds the angle you release it on instead of turning over when you put a forehand or a full-power backhand into it. Retailer reviews put it in the 340 to 400 foot range and call it dependable on flex lines and into wind. A slower arm sees the fade arrive earlier and gets less of the straight push, but nothing unexpected: this is not a disc that flips.

That puts it in the overstable control slot — placement drives, flex shots, forehands, and headwind lines where a neutral fairway driver gives up. Where exactly it sits is genuinely contested: Discraft’s own release post calls it a fairway driver, TryDiscs and Infinite class it a control driver, and several US retailers file it as a distance driver. The comparison two retailers land on independently is a faster, longer Anax with less glide and more torque resistance; against a Vulture it finishes harder, and against a Raptor it goes further. It will not turn over for a shaped anhyzer, and one customer review makes the fair point that it can sit awkwardly between a Raptor and a true distance driver in a bag that already carries both.

Discraft does not explain the name. A hallux is the backward-pointing toe on a bird’s foot. The disc arrived as a prototype in December 2025 alongside Wysocki’s Fossil, under Discraft’s own Prehistoric Powerhouse framing rather than as part of any bird-of-prey line, despite the Raptor and Vulture already in the catalogue. PDGA approved 22 September 2025.

It ships in ESP — the prototype and First Run releases and the standing signature line — plus Big Z, Z ColorShift, and the 2026 Tour Series blend Discraft describes as Titanium mixed with Big Z. Two limited runs exist beyond those: a Ledgestone Open Jawbreaker Z FLX, and a Victory Edition Elite Z marking Wysocki’s win at the 2026 Supreme Flight Open. One caveat worth carrying: Discraft does not publish flight numbers for the Hallux on its own site, so the 10 / 5 / 0 / 3 every shop quotes is a retailer figure, and there are no customer ratings aggregated against it yet to check it.
