About the Aztec

Aztec: Infinite’s stable distance driver

The Infinite Discs Aztec is a stable 10-speed distance driver rated 10/5/-1/2 — a straight, easy-to-reach driver at the slow end of the distance class.

One turn against two fade is a gentle flight. With real speed it holds a straight line, drifts slightly right, and finishes with a soft fade rather than a hook. Infinite’s reviewer averages, from more than a hundred reviews, land at 10.1/5/-1.2/1.9 — the rating, with a shade more turn. Slower arms get the most out of it: 10 speed doesn’t need a big release to reach its glide, and Infinite points to its slimmer rim as more comfortable for most hands. Big arms will turn it over, particularly in G-Blend, which Infinite says “flies like a longer Sphinx — flipping up easily and finishing with a soft fade.”

In a bag it’s the step up from a control driver rather than a bomber. Infinite pitches it as a longer-flying equivalent of the Exodus or Dynasty, and OTB Discs describes it as a slightly straighter, faster Thunderbird. Infinite files it as a distance driver while Marshall Street and OTB both list it as a control driver, which is a fair picture of where it lives. What it won’t do is hold a hard line into a headwind or finish reliably on a big hyzer — that’s the Emperor‘s job.

The name comes from the group Infinite reserves for the civilizations of the Americas, alongside the Maya and the Inca; Infinite describes them as “renowned for their military prowess, impressive architecture, and the complex social structure.” The Aztecs ruled from Tenochtitlan, in the Valley of Mexico.

PDGA approved in September 2019. Like every Infinite mold it’s made by Innova, and it ships in I-Blend, S-Blend (Infinite’s equivalent of Star), C-Blend (comparable to Champion) and G-Blend (comparable to GStar), plus glow, halo, swirly and metal-flake runs.

How much the Aztec turns and fades depends on how hard it is thrown. These three shapes are drawn from the manufacturer’s numbers, not from measured throws.

Section drawing of a disc golf disc with the diameter dimensioned
Diameter21.2cmOutside edge to outside edge. The PDGA allows 21 to 30 cm; nearly every golf disc sits just over 21.
Section drawing of a disc golf disc with the height dimensioned
Height1.5cmFrom the bottom of the rim to the top of the dome, standing flat.
Section drawing of a disc golf disc with the rim depth dimensioned
Rim depth1.1cmFrom the bottom of the rim up to where the inner rim meets the flight plate — the pocket your fingers curl into. At least 1.1 cm.
Section drawing of a disc golf disc with the rim width dimensioned
Rim width2.1cmOuter edge to inner edge of the rim (the PDGA calls it rim thickness). Wider rims generally mean faster discs. Capped at 2.6 cm.
Section drawing of a disc golf disc with the inside rim diameter dimensioned
Inside rim diameter16.9cmAcross the hollow underneath, inner rim wall to inner rim wall. At least 15.8 cm.
Section drawing of a disc golf disc with the rim depth ratio dimensioned
Rim depth ratio5.2%Rim depth as a share of the diameter. The PDGA allows 5 to 12 percent.
