Splice

The Discmania Splice is a very overstable fairway driver rated 9/3/0/4, built for the shots where a disc has to fight: headwinds, forehands, skips and hard hyzer lines. It is part of Discmania’s Evolution line and was PDGA approved in March 2021.

The numbers leave little to interpret. Zero turn means no high-speed flip to work with, 3 glide means it doesn’t hang in the air, and 4 fade means a hard, early finish, left for a right-handed backhand. Infinite’s reviewer averages, 9/2.8/0.1/4.1 across 16 reviews, match the rating almost exactly. Arm speed changes how it gets there more than whether it fades: a big arm gets a controlled line that holds before a strong finish, while a slower arm gets a quicker dump that still works as a forehand or skip disc. Discmania also pitches it for escape shots and approaches, and for tomahawks and upside-down shots from powerful throwers.

Its numbers match the Innova Firebird exactly and sit within half a point of the Dynamic Discs Felon. FDN Sports’ review reads it as more stable than a typical Firebird or Discraft Raptor and closer to the Captain’s Raptor. That makes it the utility driver in a bag, the one that comes out when the wind is up or the line has to finish. It is not a distance disc, and it won’t hold a turnover line.

Discmania hasn’t published an explanation of the name.

The core run is Neo, which Discmania describes as the most durable and rigid of its Evolution plastics while keeping some flex and grip. The Splice has also appeared in limited Lux Vapor editions, the Mini Heart and Micro Shield stamps. Discmania names Kyle Klein among the Team Discmania players who carry it as a precision tool, and the Neo Splice has worn Klein stamps, including a Triumph Series edition marking his first Elite Series win at the 2021 Idlewild Open.
