The Discraft Zone SS is a straight-flying approach disc rated 4/4/-1/2. Next to the standard Zone (4/3/0/3) it gains a point of glide and a point of turn, and loses a point of fade. That is the difference between a disc that checks up hard and one that holds its line and settles.
Discraft built it to fly like a beat-in Zone straight out of the box, which is the flight a lot of players were waiting years to season into. That makes it a tunnel disc and a controlled approach where the standard Zone would dump early, and it takes a forehand without turning over. What it will not do is fight a real headwind — one point of turn and four glide give up ground the original Zone holds — and if you want the hard finish, that is still the Zone or the Zone OS.
How much the Zone SS turns and fades depends on how hard it is thrown. These three shapes are drawn from the manufacturer’s numbers, not from measured throws.
Measured by the PDGA when the Zone SS was certified. Each card names discs that share the number, so you can feel it in the hand.
